Deye SUN Hybrid F08 — GFDI Relay Failure (Ground-Fault Protection)
⚠ DANGER — this fault involves lethal voltage. Do not attempt a DIY fix. Call a qualified technician.
What it means: Deye's manual lists F08 as "GFDI_Relay_Failure". The GFDI is the ground-fault detection and interruption relay — the part of the inverter whose whole job is to notice current leaking to earth and shut the system down. F08 means that protective relay itself has reported a failure. The inverter is not telling you it found an earth fault; it is telling you the device that would find one is not working.
Why does Deye show F08?
- Failure of the internal ground-fault detection relay or its drive circuit — an internal component fault
- Wiring configuration error on split-phase (120/240 Vac) or three-phase (120/208 Vac) systems, where Deye requires the backup-load port N line to be connected to ground
- An earth-referencing problem on the backup/load side that leaves the relay unable to complete its self-test
The Pakistan factor
Two Pakistani realities make F08 worse than the manual suggests. The first is earthing. A large share of rooftop installs here have no dedicated earth electrode, or a corroded rod with high resistance, so the protective path the GFDI relay exists to police is already weak — losing the relay on top of that leaves nothing. The second is service. Deye's own website lists sales and service only on +86 China numbers and names no Pakistani office. The single Pakistani contact Deye has ever published is the instruction on the 15 November 2024 remote-shutdown screen, "Pakistan contact inverex" — so on a Deye-badged unit that is the door to try first, and be ready for it to decline a box Inverex never sold. Grey-channel owners therefore often find no counter at all to return an internally faulty inverter to, and that is precisely the situation in which a local technician will offer to bypass the protection instead. Refuse it. If the inverter cannot be repaired properly, the honest answer is that it should not be in service.
How to fix it
- Stop. F08 is one of the codes that ends the DIY session. The system's earth-fault protection has declared itself unreliable, and an inverter you cannot trust to detect a ground fault should not be running.
- Leave the system off. Use the external isolators your installer fitted — AC off first, then the DC/PV isolator — and leave it that way until it has been looked at. Do not open the inverter and do not open the backup-load distribution board.
- Do not try to clear F08 by restarting repeatedly. Deye's fault table gives no restart remedy for F08 at all, unlike almost every other code in the same table. That absence is the message.
- Understand why the manual's one self-serve remedy probably does not apply to you. Deye writes it for split-phase 120/240 Vac and three-phase 120/208 Vac systems, and says the backup load port N line needs to connect to ground. Pakistani installs are 230 V single-phase (SG04LP1) or 400 V three-phase (SG04LP3), so that specific configuration note is not your situation — which leaves the manual's remaining instruction, "if the fault still exists, please contact us for help".
- Qualified installer, next. He should verify the earthing and neutral arrangement at the backup-load port and the inverter's PE connection against the manual for your exact model, with the system isolated. If the wiring is correct and F08 persists, the relay has failed.
- A confirmed GFDI relay failure is an internal fault and goes to the manufacturer's service route, not to a local repair bench. Do not accept a repair that consists of disabling, bypassing or "jumpering out" the ground-fault protection to make the code go away. That converts a stopped inverter into an unprotected one, and it is the change that kills someone later.
