Irish solar is sold on a grant and a payback figure, and both are easy to quote misleadingly. The SEAI grant has a cap and a set of eligibility conditions; the payback depends on your unit rate, your export rate under the Clean Export Guarantee, and how much you use during daylight. The Clean Export Guarantee rate is set by each supplier, not by the regulator, so "what you get paid for export" genuinely differs depending on who you buy electricity from. Where a figure varies by supplier we say so rather than publishing one number as though it were the national rate.
