Solis NO-GRID (Alarm 1015) — No Grid Voltage Detected
What it means: The inverter cannot detect a usable AC supply at its grid terminals, so it will not connect or export. Solis logs it as alarm 1015 and titles their own service article "NO-GRID (AC MCB Tripping)", because a tripped AC breaker is the most common cause after an ordinary outage. On a grid-tied Solis this is usually the inverter reporting the state of the world correctly, not a fault in the inverter.
Why does Solis show NO-GRID?
- An ordinary grid outage or a load-shedding slot — nothing is wrong
- The AC MCB or isolator for the inverter has tripped
- An AC breaker that is under-rated for the system, which Solis lists first among the causes of a repeated NO-GRID, or a breaker that has simply worn out and become faulty
- Loose contacts in the AC connector, the distribution box or at the meter
- Incorrect AC polarity or wire sequence at the inverter's AC connector, typically on a fresh install or after a rewire
- Grid output switched off in the inverter's settings after a service visit
The Pakistan factor
In Pakistan NO-GRID is the single most-seen entry in a Solis alarm log and most of those entries are simply load shedding being recorded faithfully — one line per outage. Treat the log as a record, not an alarm, unless it appears while the rest of the street has power. The two cases that do matter here are both installer-side. First, AC breakers on Pakistani installs are frequently chosen by rule of thumb rather than by the inverter's rated output current, and an under-rated breaker on a system that runs at full output through a Punjab summer afternoon will nuisance-trip; the fix is the right breaker, never a bigger one chosen at random. Second, the sheer number of grid interruptions here means AC breakers see far more operations than they would on a stable supply, and a breaker that has been cycled thousands of times eventually stops holding. Both are cheap fixes — neither is a reason to touch the inverter.
How to fix it (safe to try yourself)
- First, check whether anyone else has power. If it is a load-shedding slot or a neighbourhood outage, NO-GRID is the expected reading and there is nothing to fix.
- Understand what your model does during an outage. A grid-tied Solis is required to shut down when the grid goes away — that anti-islanding behaviour protects linesmen working on the dead feeder. If you have a grid-tied unit rather than a hybrid, having no power during an outage is the design, not a failure, and no setting changes it.
- Look at the AC MCB or isolator feeding the inverter. If it is visibly tripped, you may switch it back on once.
- If it trips again straight away, stop. Do not keep resetting it. A breaker that trips immediately is reporting a real fault downstream of it, and repeatedly forcing it back on is how a wiring fault becomes a fire. Leave it off and call your installer.
- If the grid is present at your meter and the breaker is on but the inverter still says NO-GRID, hand it to your installer. Solis's checklist for them is to verify the AC breaker rating against the system size, replace a suspect breaker, confirm AC cable connections and wire sequence at the connector, measure line-to-neutral, line-to-earth and neutral-to-earth voltages at the inverter's AC gland, and check for loose contacts through to the meter.
- Ask them to confirm the Grid ON/OFF setting is set to ON. It sits in the technician-only Advanced Settings menu and is occasionally left off after a site visit.
- Do not open the inverter or the AC distribution box yourself, and do not attempt to bypass the breaker to "test" whether the inverter works. If the alarm survives a competent installer's checks, it goes to the Solis service centre with the model, serial number, firmware version and installation date.
