Deye SUN Hybrid F13 — Working Mode Change (Not a Grid Fault)
What it means: F13 is not a hardware fault. Deye's own manuals define it as "working mode change": the inverter raises it when the grid type or grid frequency setting is changed, when the battery mode is switched to "No battery", and — on some older firmware — whenever the system work mode is changed. Deye's manual says plainly that it will generally disappear by itself. It is an acknowledgement that a setting moved, not a report that something broke.
Why does Deye show F13?
- The grid type or grid frequency setting was changed (Deye manual, cause 1)
- The battery mode was changed to "No battery" mode (Deye manual, cause 2)
- On older firmware versions, any change of system work mode raises F13 (Deye manual, cause 3)
- Someone — you, an installer, or a remote monitoring session — changed a setting and the code is the receipt for it
The Pakistan factor
F13 is the most mis-copied code in the Pakistani market. WhatsApp forwards and several local blog tables print it as "grid over-voltage", which is wrong: neither the SUN-5K/6K-SG04LP1-EU manual nor the SUN-5/6/8/10/12K-SG04LP3-EU manual defines any F-code that way. In both manuals the grid-voltage code is F42, whose description column reads "Grid voltage fault" and whose fix is to check the AC voltage against the range in the specification. If a technician diagnoses "F13 = your grid voltage is high" and quotes you for a grid-side job, ask him to show you the line in Deye's manual. It is not there. The second Pakistani wrinkle is that many units here are rebadged or grey-channel Deye hardware running older firmware, which is exactly the population where cause 3 (any work mode change raises F13) applies — so on those units F13 appears more often and means even less.
How to fix it (safe to try yourself)
- Read the screen and ask what changed. If you, your installer or a remote SOLARMAN session touched the grid standard, the grid frequency, the battery mode or the work mode in the last few minutes, F13 is the expected response and not a fault.
- Wait. Deye's manual states that F13 "will disappear automatically" in the normal case. Give it a few minutes before doing anything else.
- Check whether the battery mode has been left on "No battery". Deye lists that selection as a direct cause of F13. If your system has a battery bank, the mode is wrong and should be set back — this is a menu setting, not a wiring job.
- If it has not cleared, follow the manual's own restart sequence exactly - turn off the DC switch and the AC switch, wait one full minute, then turn the DC and AC switches back on. Use the external isolators your installer fitted. Do not open the inverter to find a switch.
- If F13 latches after that restart, stop. Deye's last step is "seek help from us". Call your installer with the model number and a photo of the screen — a code that will not clear after a correct power-cycle points at firmware or configuration, and neither is fixed from the front panel.
- Do not open the inverter, and do not try to clear F13 by cycling power over and over. Repeated hard restarts do not fix a configuration problem and they are how a nuisance code becomes a real one.
