Fronus Fault 02 — Over Temperature

What it means: The inverter has measured the internal temperature of its inverter component above 100 °C and shut itself down. Fronus's manual lists 02 simply as "Over temperature" in the fault table, and its troubleshooting chart gives the actual threshold — "Internal temperature of inverter component is over 100 °C" — along with the two things to check: whether the airflow through the unit is blocked, or whether the ambient temperature is too high. In most cases 02 is a cooling problem in the room, not a broken part in the machine.

Why does Fronus show 02?

The Pakistan factor

This is the fault Pakistani summers were built to produce. The Infineon Reborn and Platinum volume series are both IP21, rated -10 °C to 50 °C, and explicitly indoor — yet the marketing photography shows wall mounting and installers routinely put them in pump rooms, on shaded-but-sealed verandas and in rooftop cabins where June ambient passes 50 °C by mid-morning. Add dust that no IP21 enclosure keeps out, and the two conditions the manual names as causes of 02 are both present at once for four months a year. There is a second, quieter cost: an installation the dealer can call non-compliant is an installation you cannot claim on, and Fronus publishes no warranty term for its inverters anywhere on its site — so a heat-killed board is likely to be a bill you pay yourself.

How to fix it (safe to try yourself)

  1. Switch off heavy appliances now — air conditioners, water pump, geyser, iron — and let the inverter cool. Reducing the heat it is generating is the fastest way to bring it back.
  2. Clear the airflow path, which is the manufacturer's own first check. Move anything stacked against or on top of the unit, open the room up, and make sure nothing is covering the vents. Look at the intake grille — if you can see a felt of dust, that alone can cause this fault.
  3. Check the room, not just the machine. The published operating range is -10 °C to 50 °C. A closed pump room, a rooftop cabin or a west-facing store in June will be past that on its own, and no amount of cleaning fixes a room that is simply too hot. Ventilate it, shade it, or move the inverter.
  4. Check whether fault or warning 01 is also showing. If the fan is locked or dead, that is the root cause and 02 is the consequence — see the Fronus fault 01 page and get the fan replaced rather than treating the over-temperature as a separate problem.
  5. Do not use program 07 ("auto restart when over temperature occurs") as the fix. It ships disabled by default. Enabling it makes the inverter restart itself after every thermal trip, which hides the fault and lets the machine keep cooking rather than telling you something is wrong.
  6. Never open the case to "clean it properly" or to point a fan at the board while it is connected. Cleaning inside the enclosure is a technician's job on a machine that holds a charge after shutdown.
  7. If 02 keeps returning with clear vents, a working fan and a room genuinely inside the rated range, stop adjusting things. An over-temperature trip on a well-cooled unit points at a temperature sensor or a failing power stage, and that is a Fronus service centre job — there are 17 published across the country.
