Fronus Fault 07 — Overload Time Out

What it means: You have asked the inverter for more power than it is rated to deliver, for longer than it is allowed to deliver it. Fronus lists 07 as "Overload time out" in the fault table and explains it in the troubleshooting chart as "Overload error. The inverter is overload 110% and time is up", with one remedy — reduce the connected load by switching off some equipment. The timings are in the specification table: five seconds at anywhere between 101% and 150% of rated load, three seconds at 150% or more. Warning 07, "Overload", beeping once every half second, is the same condition before the timer expires.

Why does Fronus show 07?

Air conditioning is what makes 07 a Pakistani code. A 1.5-ton inverter AC runs at a perfectly reasonable steady load and still asks for a hard slug of current every time the compressor cuts in, which is exactly the profile that eats a five-second surge allowance. Two habits compound it. The first is buying by price: a 4.2 kW unit sold for a 6 kW house because it was the cheapest brand-name hybrid on the shelf will meet 07 every summer evening, and no amount of settings work will change the physics. The second is scope creep — the backup circuit gets extended room by room until a machine specified for fans, lights and a fridge is carrying a pump and a geyser too. Add heat derating on an IP21 unit rated to 50 °C ambient and the same load that was fine in spring is an overload in June. If your 07 is seasonal, size is the answer, not a setting.

How to fix it (safe to try yourself)

  1. Do the manufacturer's own remedy first — switch off equipment until the fault clears. Start with whatever has the biggest motor or heating element on it.
  2. Work out what was starting at the exact moment it tripped. Overload almost always has a trigger, and an air conditioner compressor or a water pump cutting in is the usual one. If 07 arrives at the same moment every time, you already know the cause.
  3. Add up your real load and compare it honestly with the rating — 3600 W or 6200 W continuous depending on which model you have. Rating plates on appliances are a reasonable guide; a plug-in energy meter is a better one.
  4. Check the second load output separately if your installation uses it. Its ceiling is 1200 W or 2066 W, far below the main output, and it is easy to move a circuit onto it without realising what that limit is.
  5. Stagger the big loads. Do not let the pump, the geyser and the air conditioner start within the same few seconds, and if you can, keep the largest motor on the mains side rather than the backup side.
  6. Do not make this go away with settings. Program 06 ("auto restart when overload occurs") and program 23 ("overload bypass") both ship disabled. Program 06 simply restarts the inverter into the same overload; program 23 hands the overload to the grid. Neither one reduces the load, and if the overload is being caused by a failing appliance both of them hide the evidence while the appliance gets worse.
  7. If 07 trips with only a small, known load connected, stop adjusting things — the load is not the problem. An inverter reporting overload at low load has a measurement or power-stage fault, which is a different class of problem entirely and belongs at a Fronus service centre.
