Fronus Fault 08 — Bus Voltage Too High
What it means: The inverter's internal high-voltage DC bus — the intermediate rail between the battery and PV side and the AC output stage — has risen above its permitted level and the machine has shut down. Fronus's fault table defines 08 as "Bus voltage is too high", and its troubleshooting chart groups 08 with 09, 53 and 57 under a single explanation, "Internal components failed", and a single remedy: return to the repair centre. Note the code carefully, because 08 is not the same fault as 09: in Fronus's own table, 09 is "Bus soft start failed". They are adjacent numbers with the same remedy but different meanings, and they are widely reported the wrong way round.
Why does Fronus show 08?
- Fronus does not break code 08 down any further. Its troubleshooting chart attributes 08, 09, 53 and 57 together to "internal components failed" and sends all four to a repair centre — so the manufacturer's own position is that this is a fault inside the machine, not something you have connected to it.
- A bus over-voltage fault points at the inverter's DC bus stage or at the circuit that measures the bus voltage. Neither is user-serviceable and neither is diagnosable from the front panel.
- SolarNevs will not list speculative external causes for this code. If someone tells you 08 is "your battery" or "your load", ask them which document says so — Fronus's does not. Guessing at an internal fault is how a Rs 3,000 diagnosis becomes a Rs 20,000 board.
The Pakistan factor
An internal bus fault is not a code you can talk your way out of with settings, and in Pakistan it usually arrives in one of two circumstances. The first is after a grid event — the voltage rebound when a feeder is restored at the end of load shedding, or a nearby strike in monsoon season — on an installation with poor or absent earthing, which is the norm rather than the exception on older domestic supplies. The second is on a system whose PV string was sized generously and never re-checked. Neither is proof of cause, and this page does not claim they are, but both are worth having an installer verify before you pay for a board. The commercial problem is sharper: Fronus prints no warranty term anywhere, so an 08 is a negotiation, not a claim. Take the unit to one of the 17 published service centres rather than a general electronics repair shop in the bazaar — a board-level repair done badly on the DC bus is the kind that comes back.
How to fix it
- Read the code twice and write it down. On a small seven-segment display 08 and 09 are easy to confuse, and 09 is a different fault ("Bus soft start failed") even though the manual's remedy for both is the same. Whoever you call will want the exact number.
- One clean restart is reasonable, and one only. If your installation has labelled switches, power down in order — AC output breaker off, AC input breaker off, PV DC isolator off, battery breaker off — wait several minutes, then restore in the reverse order. If it clears, note the date and time; a fault that recurs on a pattern is much easier to get repaired under any warranty you manage to negotiate.
- Do not keep power-cycling a unit that shows 08 again. Fronus's remedy for this code is to return it to a repair centre, and repeatedly re-energising a machine with a bus fault risks turning a single failed component into a failed board.
- Do not open the case, and do not let anyone talk you into "just checking the capacitors" at home. The bus this fault is named after is a high-voltage DC rail that holds a dangerous charge for some time after the inverter is switched off and disconnected.
- Have the installer confirm your PV string is inside the array limits before the unit goes for repair — the MPPT window is 60 to 450 Vdc and the maximum array open-circuit voltage is 500 Vdc. This is not a stated cause of 08, but it is worth ruling out for free, because an over-sized string will keep damaging replacement boards. Have them check the earthing at the same time.
- Book it with a Fronus service centre — 17 are published with street addresses and individual phone numbers across Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Quote fault code 08 and cite section 8 of the Infineon Reborn PV5200 product manual, which lists 08, 09, 53 and 57 together as internal component failures.
- Get the warranty term, the claim route and the servicing centre written on your invoice before the unit is accepted for repair. Fronus publishes no warranty period for its inverters anywhere on its website, in its datasheet or in this manual, so whatever cover you have is whatever you can get in writing.
