GoodWe Error 26 — Battery Licence Fault

What it means: The inverter has rejected the battery's activation code. GoodWe gives one cause, "battery activation code incorrect", and exactly one remedy, "contact your service centre". This is a licensing lock, not a hardware fault — nothing is broken, nothing is unsafe, and no amount of rewiring, resetting or restarting will clear it. Whoever holds the correct activation code holds your battery.

Why does GoodWe show 26?

The Pakistan factor

This one is a commercial risk dressed as a technical fault, and Pakistan has the exact conditions for it. GoodWe puts alarm reading on administrator and technician accounts in SEMS Portal, and the SolarGo alarm screen is an installer function — so the customer who paid for the system frequently cannot even see the code that has disabled their battery, let alone clear it. Add the local pattern of grey-import and second-hand battery packs moved between systems without their activation codes, and installers who fold or change names between one season and the next, and error 26 becomes a battery you own but cannot use. The defence is contractual, not technical — insist on your own SEMS plant account at handover and get the activation code custody written into the handover note before money changes hands.

How to fix it

  1. Do nothing on site. There is no wiring check, no reset sequence and no power cycle that clears a licence fault, and GoodWe's guide lists no on-site step at all for this code. Anything you are told to try physically is someone guessing.
  2. Contact whoever commissioned the system. The activation code lives with the installer or distributor account, not with you, and GoodWe's only documented remedy is to contact the service centre.
  3. Get it in writing. Ask who holds your battery's activation code, what a reissue costs, and how it is transferred if your installer closes or you sell the house. Do this before you pay for a battery, not after the fault appears.
  4. Do not let anyone "solve" error 26 by disconnecting the BMS communication cable, swapping to an unapproved battery, or running the pack in a mode where the inverter can no longer see the BMS. Those protections exist because a lithium pack without BMS supervision is a fire risk, and defeating them to silence a licensing message trades a commercial problem for a safety one.
  5. If your installer cannot or will not resolve it, escalate to the GoodWe service centre or the local authorised distributor directly.
