Huawei SUN2000 Alarm 2033 — Grid Undervoltage
What it means: The grid voltage has dropped below the lower limit the inverter is allowed to work at, or a low-voltage dip lasted longer than the low-voltage ride-through setting permits, so the SUN2000 disconnected and shut down. Huawei grades it Major and states that the device is shut down. Like its opposite number 2034, this is a report about the incoming supply rather than a fault inside the inverter, and it clears itself when the supply recovers.
Why does Huawei show 2033?
- Huawei's stated cause — the grid voltage is below the lower threshold, or the low-voltage condition lasted longer than the LVRT setting allows.
- A heavily loaded or end-of-line feeder sagging in the evening peak.
- A large motor load starting nearby, such as a tubewell or a lift, pulling the local voltage down for a few seconds.
- A loose or corroded connection between the AC breaker and the inverter, which drops voltage under load — this is the version that is an installation fault rather than a grid fault.
The Pakistan factor
Pakistani evening peaks pull feeders down hard, and on rural and end-of-line feeders a swing between roughly 180 V and 260 V across a single evening is routine. That is why the same site often logs 2033 and 2034 on the same day. The failure worth catching here is the one that looks like a weak grid but is not — an undersized or badly terminated AC cable between the inverter and the board will sag under the inverter's own output and throw 2033 while the neighbours are perfectly fine. If your voltage looks normal at the meter and bad at the inverter, that is the case, and it belongs to your installer.
How to fix it (safe to try yourself)
- Treat an occasional 2033 as normal. Huawei's guidance is that an occasional occurrence means the grid was temporarily abnormal and the inverter recovers automatically once the supply is back in range.
- Log it. In FusionSolar, note the time and duration of each 2033 for a week and read the grid voltage the inverter reports. If it lands at the same hour every evening, it is your feeder sagging under peak load, not your equipment.
- Sanity-check with a plug-in meter at a wall socket during the alarm. Ask the neighbours too — if the whole street dims at the same moment, the answer is the feeder.
- If the supply is genuinely below the permitted band, take it to the DISCO in writing with your logged times, exactly as Huawei directs you to contact the local power operator. Persistent undervoltage damages motors, compressors and pumps as well as stopping your solar.
- Do not lower the undervoltage protection threshold to keep the inverter running. Huawei only permits changing it when the grid is inside the allowed range and only with the local power operator's consent, and it needs an installer-level login. Running a house on a badly sagging supply burns out motors.
- If the alarm persists for long periods while the rest of the street is fine, stop and call your installer. Huawei's next step is to check the connection between the AC switch and the power cables — that is work inside an energised distribution board and is not a homeowner task.
