Huawei SUN2000 Alarm 2034 — Grid Overvoltage
What it means: The line voltage coming in from the grid has gone above the upper limit the inverter is allowed to work at, so the SUN2000 has shut itself down and stopped exporting. Huawei grades it Major and states plainly that the device is shut down. The fault is in the incoming supply, not inside the inverter — nothing is broken, and the unit restarts on its own once the grid comes back inside the permitted band.
Why does Huawei show 2034?
- Huawei's stated cause — the power grid line voltage exceeds the upper threshold.
- A feeder sitting high all day because the distribution transformer tap is set high for a long, weak line.
- Evening rebound after load shedding ends, when the feeder springs high before load comes back on.
- A long or undersized AC cable run between the inverter and the board, which lifts the voltage the inverter sees above the voltage at the meter.
The Pakistan factor
Grid overvoltage is the single most common nuisance alarm on Pakistani rooftops, and it clusters. End-of-line rural feeders and the tail of a long urban feeder swing hardest, and the worst hour is usually the one right after load shedding ends, when the feeder rebounds high before the neighbourhood load returns. Because the customer only sees "my system stopped again", installers here routinely widen the trip window instead of reporting the feeder. That is a bypass, not a repair — it hides a distribution problem and does nothing about the transformer tap that is putting 250 V at your meter.
How to fix it (safe to try yourself)
- Check whether it is occasional or a pattern. Huawei's guidance is that an occasional 2034 means the grid was temporarily abnormal and the inverter recovers by itself once the grid is normal again. One trip on a hot evening is not a fault.
- The SUN2000 has no fault display — it has status LEDs and the FusionSolar app. Open FusionSolar, read the grid voltage the inverter is reporting, and log the date, time and duration of each 2034 for a week. Screenshots with timestamps are what you will need later.
- Cross-check with a plug-in voltage meter at an ordinary wall socket in the house. A 230 V nominal supply is normally allowed about plus or minus 10 percent, so readings that sit above roughly 253 V for long stretches mean the supply itself is out of spec and no inverter setting will fix that.
- If the voltage is genuinely out of range, do what Huawei's own instruction says and take it to the local power operator. In Pakistan that means a written complaint to your DISCO with the logged times and app screenshots attached. Out-of-spec voltage is also cooking your fridge, motors and LED drivers, so say that in the complaint.
- Do not widen the overvoltage protection threshold yourself, and do not let anyone widen it as a first move. Huawei permits changing that threshold only when the grid voltage is inside the allowed range, and only with the consent of the local power operator. It needs an installer-level FusionSolar login, and raising it so the customer stops complaining just lets out-of-spec voltage through to your appliances.
- If FusionSolar shows normal grid voltage and 2034 still latches, stop here and hand it to your installer. The next checks are the AC cable size and the terminations at the inverter and the board, and that is work on live wiring — not a homeowner job.
