Huawei SUN2000 Alarm 2061 — Abnormal Grounding
⚠ DANGER — this fault involves lethal voltage. Do not attempt a DIY fix. Call a qualified technician.
What it means: The inverter has detected that its earth or neutral connection is not there. Huawei grades it Major, records that the device is shut down, and gives the cause as the neutral wire or PE cable of the device not being connected, or the configured output mode not matching the way the unit is actually wired. Treat this as the alarm that says the safety earth on your solar system may be missing. Without a PE connection, a fault inside the inverter or anywhere on its earthed metalwork has no path to clear, and metal parts that should never be live can become live.
Why does Huawei show 2061?
- Huawei's stated cause — the neutral wire or the PE cable of the device is not connected.
- Huawei's stated cause — the output mode configured on the device does not match the actual cable connection.
- An earth conductor that was terminated loosely, corroded through at the joint, or never landed at all during installation.
- Recent work at the distribution board or on the incoming supply that disturbed the neutral or earth.
- A single-phase unit commissioned as three-phase, or vice versa, after a wiring change.
The Pakistan factor
Earthing is the weakest part of most Pakistani solar installations. A single copper rod in dry soil, no salt-and-charcoal pit maintenance, no periodic earth-resistance test, and a joint that corrodes through in three summers is the normal case rather than the bad one. On the supply side, a floating or broken neutral on a TN-C-S connection is a recognised hazard here and produces exactly this alarm alongside wildly swinging voltage in the house. The dangerous combination is a missing earth plus the metal-bodied appliances and unearthed metal roof structures common on local rooftops — that is when a fault that should trip a breaker instead energises something a person can touch. If 2061 appears on a system that has just been worked on, assume the work caused it.
How to fix it
- Stop and treat this as a live electrical hazard, not a nuisance alarm. Do not open the inverter, do not open the distribution board, do not open the meter box, and do not keep clearing the alarm or power-cycling to make it go away.
- Do not touch the inverter enclosure, the DC isolator body, the array frames or any other exposed metalwork of the system until an electrician has confirmed the earth. If anyone has felt a tingle from any of it, or from a tap, a fridge or a washing machine body, keep people away from it and treat the whole installation as suspect.
- If your main board has a clearly labelled breaker for the solar system and it can be operated from the front of the board in the normal way, switch it off and leave it off. If anything at the board looks scorched, smells hot, or you have any doubt at all, do not touch it — leave everything alone and call an electrician.
- Call a qualified electrician or your installer the same day. This is not a wait-and-see alarm and it does not clear itself the way the grid alarms do.
- What the technician does, per Huawei — fully power the unit off first, turning off both the AC switch and the DC switch and waiting the discharge time printed on the device safety label before opening anything. Then verify the PE cable is properly connected; on a TN supply, verify the neutral is properly connected and that its voltage to ground is normal; then, after re-powering, confirm the output mode set on the inverter matches the actual cable connection.
- Never let anyone make this alarm go away by disabling the grounding detection, and never accept a neutral-to-earth link improvised at the inverter as a fix. The protection is doing the one job that matters. If the earth cannot be proven good, the system stays off.
