Huawei SUN2000 Alarm 2062 — Low Insulation Resistance
What it means: Before it connects, the SUN2000 measures how well the DC side is insulated from earth. Alarm 2062 means that measurement came back too low, so the inverter refuses to start. Huawei grades it Major, records the impact as the device cannot be started, and lists two families of cause — a short between the PV array and ground, or a damp array whose insulation to ground is poor; and, on systems with storage, a battery rack that is short-circuited to ground or sitting in a humid environment. It is a genuine protection: low insulation on a live DC array is a shock and fire risk.
Why does Huawei show 2062?
- Huawei's stated cause — a short circuit between the PV array and the ground.
- Huawei's stated cause — damp ambient air around the array, giving poor insulation between the array and ground.
- Huawei's stated cause on storage systems — the battery rack is short-circuited to ground, or the rack is in a humid environment with poor insulation to ground.
- Water standing in a junction box or an unsealed MC4 connector after monsoon rain.
- DC cable insulation damaged by rodents, by rubbing on a sharp roof edge, or by years of UV where it was left unclipped.
- A PE cable that was never terminated properly at the inverter or the array frame.
The Pakistan factor
Insulation alarms are seasonal visitors on Pakistani rooftops and they arrive together with the monsoon. Most local installations sit on houses with one copper earth rod, dry soil and no periodic earth-resistance testing, and the array itself collects dust that cements onto DC cable insulation and then conducts once it is damp. Add unsealed junction boxes, connectors crimped with pliers rather than a proper tool, mixed-brand MC4s and rodents in the cable trays, and 2062 becomes a predictable annual event. The correct order of work here is measure the earth, re-terminate the PE cable, dry and re-seal the junction boxes — and only then discuss a software threshold with your installer. Local practice inverts that order, which is exactly why damaged DC cabling goes unnoticed until it becomes an arc fault.
How to fix it
- What the homeowner can safely do is observe and record, nothing more. Note in FusionSolar whether 2062 appears only in the early morning, on foggy mornings or after rain, and clears once the array dries. That pattern points at moisture. Appearing on a dry, sunny afternoon points at real insulation damage.
- Do not open the DC switch, a junction box, a combiner or an MC4 connector to investigate. A PV array is live whenever there is daylight and cannot be switched off from the ground. There is no owner-level check on the DC side of this fault.
- Call your installer. Huawei's first physical check is that the PE cable of the device is correctly connected, so that is where a competent technician starts.
- The installer then measures the array's output-to-ground impedance and rectifies any short circuit or degraded insulation found. FusionSolar reports the measured insulation resistance and can indicate a probable short-circuit position as a percentage along a string, which is what turns this from a guess into a located fault.
- If the system has a LUNA2000 or another battery rack, the installer shuts down the devices on the same DC bus and runs the battery insulation-impedance detection, then checks rack-to-ground impedance and the rack's PE connection. Nobody opens a battery module to investigate this.
- Changing the insulation-resistance protection threshold is the last resort and is an installer decision, not a homeowner one. Huawei sanctions adjusting it only where the impedance dips below threshold specifically on rainy and cloudy days. Lowering the threshold to silence an alarm that also fires on dry days does not fix anything — it switches off the detector that is warning you about damaged insulation on a live DC array.
- If 2062 persists after the connections and the array have been checked, stop and get the DC installation inspected properly before it is re-energised. Huawei's escalation path is the vendor or technical support.
