Huawei SUN2000 Alarm 2077 — Off-Grid Output Overload

What it means: While running your house on backup power, with the grid down, the SUN2000 was asked for more than it can supply and shut the backup output down. Huawei grades it Major and gives the causes as the output being overloaded or short-circuited, or the irradiance or battery being low. It applies to systems with a Backup Box and a battery — a plain grid-tied SUN2000 has no off-grid output to overload. Huawei also requires the alarm to be cleared manually once the problem is resolved, so it will not simply vanish on its own.

Why does Huawei show 2077?

Pakistani households arrive at solar backup with UPS-era expectations — that when the power goes, everything keeps running exactly as before. A Huawei backup circuit does not work that way, and 2077 is usually the customer discovering the difference rather than an equipment fault. The specific local trigger is the 1.5 ton air conditioner, whose compressor surge at start is far beyond its running load, closely followed by a motor-driven water pump on a rooftop tank. The other local cause is commissioning shortcuts, where the backup output is simply wired to the existing main board because splitting an essential loads sub-board takes an extra day. Insist on that split at installation, and get the backup rating of your specific unit in writing so you know what the circuit is actually designed to carry during load shedding.

How to fix it (safe to try yourself)

  1. Understand the limit you are working against. The backup output is capped by the inverter's backup rating and by what the battery and the array can deliver at that moment, not by the size of your grid connection. A 5 kW backup output will not start a 1.5 ton conventional air conditioner and a water pump together, whatever the grid could manage.
  2. Rule out a short circuit before you retry anything. Huawei's own first step is to check whether the device output is short-circuited, not to check the load. If the backup output trips immediately with almost nothing switched on, or trips again the moment it is restored with the heavy loads still off, stop here — that is the short-circuit case, not an overload. Leave the backup output off, do not clear the alarm, and call a qualified electrician to find the fault on that circuit. Repeatedly clearing the alarm and re-energising into a short is how a fault becomes a fire.
  3. If it only trips under real load, switch off the heavy loads you had running — air conditioners, water pumps, motors, an electric iron, a welding set. Then bring them back one at a time and watch which one causes it. Huawei's next steps are to check the load against the rated power and to remove some loads when irradiance or the battery is low.
  4. Check the battery state of charge in FusionSolar. Late at night or on a heavily overcast day there is simply less power available, and the same set of loads that was fine at noon will trip the backup at 2 am.
  5. Only once you have ruled out a short circuit and reduced the load, clear the alarm in FusionSolar. Huawei requires this manual clear after the problem is resolved — the word that matters is "resolved". Clearing it to see what happens is not a diagnostic step.
  6. If it keeps happening at what should be a normal load, book the installer to review the design rather than living with it. The fix is usually a properly split essential loads board, so that the backup circuit carries lights, fans, the fridge and the internet rather than the whole house. That is switchboard work and belongs to the installer.
