Inverex Nitrox F56 — Battery Voltage Too Low
What it means: The DC bus voltage has fallen below the level the inverter can work with. On the Nitrox hybrids, Inverex's fault table gives the description "DC busbar voltage is too low" and the plain-English cause "Battery voltage low" — the bank is flat or nearly flat, or the inverter cannot see the battery voltage it expects to see. The manual's own remedy is to charge the battery from PV or the grid. On the three-phase Nitrox string inverters, which have no battery, the same code number sits beside F55 and the manual's troubleshooting table attributes the pair to solar over-voltage or under-voltage instead.
Why does Inverex show F56?
- Bank genuinely discharged after a long outage, an oversized load, or too little solar to recharge
- Battery breaker or fuse open, or a loose or corroded battery terminal dropping voltage under load
- Ageing or failing cells — the bank reads acceptably at rest but sags hard under load
- Bank undersized for the load actually connected to it
- Lithium pack under-charged because the charge profile was never changed from a lead-acid setting
- On a string inverter, a PV string voltage problem rather than a battery one
The Pakistan factor
Extended load shedding is the everyday cause. The bank carries the house through the outage, does not get a full recharge the next day, and walks steadily down over a week until F56 latches. The more expensive version is the tubular-to-lithium conversion where the charge profile was never changed — the inverter under-charges the lithium bank on a lead-acid setting, the pack drifts low, and the owner reads the resulting F56 as "the battery is finished" and buys a replacement for a bank that was simply never charged correctly. Deep discharge is also the quietest way a lithium pack gets destroyed in Pakistani installs, and heat accelerates all of it, so a repeat F56 is worth actually investigating rather than clearing and carrying on.
How to fix it
- Read the battery voltage on the inverter display and note whether it is low at rest or only collapses when a load starts. That distinction decides everything that follows, and checking whether battery voltage is too low is the manual's own first step.
- Recharge the bank from PV or the grid, which is the remedy the manual gives. Allow a full daytime charge cycle and see whether the fault clears and then stays cleared.
- Review what is actually connected. If the bank empties before morning every night, the system is undersized or the load has grown since it was commissioned. That is a design conversation with your installer, not a fault to be reset away.
- Do not open the battery, do not bypass the battery breaker or fuse, and do not attempt to jump-start or force-charge a flat lithium pack from another source. A lithium pack that has gone into under-voltage protection needs its own BMS and the correct charger, and forcing current into a deeply discharged pack is a fire risk.
- If the bank will not hold charge, or recovers at rest but collapses the moment a load starts, stop. That is a failing cell group or a bad connection, and diagnosing it means working on live DC — installer or service-centre work, not homeowner work.
- Repeated F56 on a healthy, correctly sized bank should go to your installer or an Inverex service centre with the serial number, install date and install location, as the manual instructs.
