Knox Krypton Fault 07 — Overload Time Out (Ran Above 110% Until the Timer Expired)
What it means: You asked the inverter for more power than it is rated to give, for longer than it is willing to give it, and it shut down. Knox Krypton hybrids are rebadged Voltronic Power InfiniSolar units — an identification that comes from retailer listings and an exact specification match, never from Knox itself — and the InfiniSolar V IV fault table gives code 07 as "Overload time out", with the troubleshooting table describing it as "Overload error. The inverter is overload 110% and time is up" and instructing you to reduce the connected load by switching off some equipment. Note the two halves of that. The inverter will tolerate a moderate overload for a while — that is what the timer is for — but once the clock runs out it stops. Code 07 also exists as a warning, listed simply as "Overload": flashing, it means you are over the limit right now and the timer is running. Solid, with the red fault light, it means the timer expired and output has stopped. The flashing version is your chance to act.
Why does Knox show 07?
- Simply too much connected load for the inverter's rating — the usual answer
- Motor starting surge, where the running load is well inside the rating but the inrush is not
- An air conditioner compressor restarting against head pressure after a brief interruption
- Everything in the house switching on at once when mains returns after load shedding
- A failing motor or compressor drawing far more than its nameplate current
- Loads quietly added over months — an extra AC, a second freezer, a welding set in the garage
The Pakistan factor
Overload is the most common Knox complaint in Pakistan and it is very rarely a fault. It is arithmetic, and two local habits push it. The first is buying against the PV number: a unit advertised as "9000" is not a 9 kW inverter, and the Krypton 9000's actual rated output is 6.2 kW. Households size the system against the headline and then wonder why it trips. The second is the load-shedding rebound. When mains returns after a two-hour outage, every air conditioner, every fridge compressor, every water pump and every UPS charger in the house starts within the same few seconds, and an inverter that carries the load comfortably all evening will trip on that one moment. Staggering restarts, or setting your air conditioners to delayed restart, deals with most of it. Summer makes both worse, because June and July are when the AC load is highest and when the inverter has the least thermal margin — a 07 that only appears on hot afternoons is often an overload and a heat problem arriving together, and it is worth reading code 02 alongside this one. The genuinely dangerous version is the tube well or submersible pump on a rural installation. A pump running dry or a motor with a failing capacitor will pull enormous current, trip the inverter repeatedly, and cook its own windings while everyone blames the solar system.
How to fix it (safe to try yourself)
- Safe for a homeowner — switch off some equipment. This is the manual's own instruction and it is usually the whole answer. Start with the heavy things — air conditioners, water pumps, motors, irons, water heaters, welding sets — and get the connected load under the inverter's rating.
- Safe for a homeowner — know your number. Check the rated output power on the label or the Knox product page for your model, not the PV number, which is larger and gets quoted instead. Knox's Krypton 9000 is a 6.2 kW model and the Krypton 9055 a 6.5 kW model; the smaller Krypton units are considerably less. Total the nameplate watts of everything you expect to run at once and compare.
- Safe for a homeowner — pay attention to starting surge, not just running watts. A 1.5 ton air conditioner that runs at around 1.5 kW can pull several times that for the first second or two, and an inverter comfortably inside its rating on paper will still trip on the start. Staggering the start of your two largest motor loads by thirty seconds solves a surprising number of these.
- Safe for a homeowner — restart once, properly. Switch off the AC output breaker, then the PV isolator, then the battery breaker. Wait a few minutes. Power up in reverse order, with the heavy loads switched off, and bring them back one at a time to find which one takes you over.
- Safe for a homeowner — if 07 started appearing without you adding anything, suspect one appliance rather than the total. A motor with failing bearings, a compressor that is struggling, or a pump running dry will draw far more than it used to. That appliance needs attention, not the inverter.
- Stop and call a qualified technician if code 07 fires with almost nothing connected, or if it returns within seconds of a restart into a nearly empty output. That is not an overload any more — it is a current-sensing or output-stage problem, and the manual's separate entries for current sensor failure and internal component failure exist for that case. Do not keep restarting it.
- Do not solve 07 by finding a setting that raises the overload threshold, and do not accept an installer's offer to do so. The 110% figure and its timer are the thermal design of the machine. Running a permanently overloaded inverter in a Pakistani summer is how a nuisance code becomes a burnt power stage.
