Haval / GWM in Pakistan

Haval is the SUV brand of China's Great Wall Motors, assembled in Pakistan as CKD by Sazgar Engineering Works in Lahore. As of 26 July 2026, Sazgar sells the Jolion, the H6 and the full-size GWM Tank 500 locally, with ex-factory prices from Rs 7,796,106 (Jolion 1.5T petrol) to Rs 22,500,000 (Tank 500 PHEV).

Start with the fact that decides everything else: Haval sells no battery-electric vehicle in Pakistan. Not one. Every car in the lineup burns petrol. What Haval has is a set of electrified vehicles across two very different technologies that Pakistani coverage conflates constantly — and getting them confused is a million-rupee mistake.

HEV vs PHEV vs BEV — read this before anything else

A Jolion HEV never plugs in. It has no charging port. Its small battery is filled by the petrol engine and by regenerative braking, and exists to let the engine switch off in traffic. If you buy one expecting to charge it from your solar array, you have bought the wrong vehicle and there is no retrofit.

An H6 PHEV does plug in, which changes the economics completely — roughly Rs 6.25/km on the off-peak EV tariff against Rs 18.62/km for a Jolion HEV on claimed economy. But only if you charge it. An unplugged PHEV is just a heavy, expensive hybrid.

Current lineup and prices

The H6 PHEV FWD started arriving at dealers on 16 July 2026 with 322 hp / 540 Nm and a claimed 106 km NEDC range, positioned below the AWD car. GWM Pakistan has not published its price. If you are shopping the H6 PHEV now, ask about it before you book.

The Tank 500 HEV and PHEV launched as Pakistan's first locally assembled full-size SUVs, bookings from 26 January 2026, replacing a CBU model that listed around Rs 45 million.

A price increase is pending across the range

This is the most important thing a Haval buyer needs to know this month.

The reduced sales-tax concession on hybrids expired on 30 June 2026. Vehicles above Rs 4 million or 1,400 cc now fall under standard 25% GST, up from 8.5%. On 8 July 2026 PakWheels published estimates of full pass-through:

Those are estimates, not announcements. As of 26 July 2026 Sazgar had not revised its prices, and it has a track record of absorbing tax increases to defend share — it swallowed the NEV levy in 2025 rather than reprice. Toyota went the other way, raising the Corolla Cross HEV by Rs 1,314,000 from 1 July 2026. Haval delivery times run about three months, so get your price confirmed in writing at booking and ask whether it is protected against a later notification.

Why Haval is selling

Sazgar's four-wheeler sales rose 74.5% year-on-year in May 2026 — 1,604 units against 919 — and the H6 reached second place in the Pakistani market in March 2026. That growth matters to buyers for an unglamorous reason: parts availability and service coverage are improving faster for Haval than for any imported EV brand here. Sazgar publishes no model-wise split, so the exact HEV/PHEV contribution is not public.

What we would tell a buyer

If you have rooftop solar and a garage socket, the H6 PHEV is the only Haval that lets you use them. After the February 2026 net-billing switch — exports now earn about Rs 11/unit against Rs 50+ to import — daytime self-consumption is the best use of a Pakistani rooftop system, and car charging is close to the ideal daytime load. Seven 585 W panels (4.1 kWp) cover about 50 km a day at effectively Rs 0/km marginal.

If you cannot charge at home, buy an HEV and stop there. The Jolion HEV at Rs 9,116,216 is the cheapest hybrid SUV in Pakistan and needs no infrastructure — which matters when the country has roughly 30-50 publicly accessible charging stations nationwide and NEECA's 72 issued licences have mostly not become working chargers, held up by grid connections, metering and no-objection certificates.

If you are buying for payback, be careful. The H6 PHEV costs Rs 3,971,014 more than the H6 1.5T; even driving every kilometre on cheap electricity, that takes around eleven years to recover. The Jolion HEV costs Rs 1,320,110 more than the Jolion 1.5T and takes roughly eight and a half years at 15,000 km a year. Hybrids here are bought for refinement and warranty. The fuel maths rarely closes inside a normal ownership period.

The uncomfortable parts

We do not sell cars and take no dealer money, so here is what a showroom will not volunteer.

Battery replacement costs are unpublished. The warranty — 8 years / 160,000 km on battery, motor and controller, plus 6 years / 150,000 km vehicle and 10 years / 1,000,000 km engine — leads the segment on paper. But neither Sazgar nor any dealer publishes what a replacement pack costs. Demand a written figure before you sign.

Claimed economy does not hold. A Jolion HEV owner reported 16 km/L city and 13 km/L highway after 3,000 km against a 20/16 claim. The H6 PHEV's 100 km electric range is quoted on NEDC, the most generous cycle in use; expect around 72 km on a Pakistani highway with the AC running.

Resale is a guess. Pakistan has no independent battery state-of-health testing and no settled used-hybrid valuation. When you sell in 2032, nobody can verify what is left of your pack — including you.

Owner feedback is mixed. PakWheels reviewers rate the Jolion 4.0/5 across 14 reviews and praise its styling, performance and value, but complaints about build quality, stiff suspension, intrusive driver assists, missing seat memory and a manual boot recur often enough to take seriously. Test drive before committing.

Monsoon rule, all models. Every electrified Haval carries a high-voltage system. If the vehicle has been submerged, do not attempt to restart it — recover it on a flatbed and have it inspected. A restart attempt risks electrical injury and voids warranty claims.
