The MG4 EV Urban is a five-door, front-wheel-drive battery-electric hatchback (BEV — no engine, no fuel tank) sold by MG Motor Pakistan, priced at Rs 6,999,000 ex-factory as listed on 26 July 2026. It launched on 18 May 2026 at Rs 6,949,000, so the list has already moved up Rs 50,000 in about two months. It uses a 43 kWh LFP battery and a 110 kW motor, and MG claims 316 km of range on the WLTP cycle.

Running cost per kilometre
Basis: 19 kWh per 100 km measured at the wall plug. That is the honest Pakistani number — 43 kWh of grid energy divided by roughly 225 km of real range, which already absorbs charger losses and AC use. Formula: cost/km = (kWh per 100 km / 100) x tariff.
Electricity source | Tariff (Rs/unit) | Cost per km | Cost per 1,000 km |
|---|---|---|---|
Off-peak EV tariff (NEPRA EVCS base, Apr 2025) | 23.57 | Rs 4.48 | Rs 4,480 |
Home slab — low | 40.00 | Rs 7.60 | Rs 7,600 |
Home slab — mid | 52.50 | Rs 9.98 | Rs 9,980 |
Home slab — high | 65.00 | Rs 12.35 | Rs 12,350 |
Public DC fast charging — low | 110.00 | Rs 20.90 | Rs 20,900 |
Public DC fast charging — high | 120.00 | Rs 22.80 | Rs 22,800 |
Rooftop solar (self-consumed) | ~0 marginal | ~Rs 0 | ~Rs 0 |
Equivalent petrol hatchback at 13 km/L | Rs 331.52/L (24 Jul 2026) | Rs 25.50 | Rs 25,500 |
Read that last comparison carefully. Charging exclusively at public DC chargers costs almost as much per kilometre as running a petrol hatchback. The MG4's economics live or die on where you charge it.
The SolarNevs line
Charging from your own rooftop solar is roughly Rs 0/km marginal — the panels are already paid for, the sun is free, and after February 2026 the grid will only buy your surplus at about Rs 11/unit anyway. A 585 W panel yields roughly 2.3 kWh/day in Pakistani conditions.
Your daily driving | Energy needed | 585 W panels required |
|---|---|---|
30 km/day | 5.7 kWh | 3 panels |
50 km/day | 9.5 kWh | 5 panels |
80 km/day | 15.2 kWh | 7 panels |
Five 585 W panels — under 3 kW of array — covers a 50 km/day commute. That is the single most useful fact on this page.
Honest assessment
Pros. At Rs 6,999,000 it is the cheapest MG-badged EV that is a proper highway-capable car. 82 kW DC charging is genuinely quick for this price bracket — a 28-minute 10-80% stop is competitive. Seven airbags and a 540-degree camera are unusually generous below Rs 7 million. LFP chemistry tolerates Pakistani heat and daily 100% charging better than NMC. V2L turns the car into a 43 kWh backup supply during load-shedding, which in Pakistan is a real feature, not a brochure line.
Cons. 43 kWh is a small pack. Lahore-to-Islamabad on the M-2 is a genuine planning exercise, not a casual drive. MG Pakistan does not publish an AC onboard-charger kW rating — only a 7.5-hour full-charge figure — so you cannot size a wallbox from official data. Pakistani MG4 owner reports (on the earlier 51 kWh and 64 kWh cars) consistently praise the drive but flag imported parts arriving slowly and infotainment that lags and occasionally reboots. Home charger installation is quoted at Rs 100,000-150,000 on top of the car.
Who should buy it. Someone with a rooftop solar system or a dedicated off-peak meter, driving 40-80 km a day inside one city, who has a second car or is comfortable planning intercity trips. If you regularly drive Karachi-Hyderabad-Sukkur or do 200 km days, this is the wrong car.
Pakistan reality check
Real vs claimed range. MG claims 316 km on WLTP, a lab cycle with modest speeds and no air conditioning. Pakistani owners across EV models consistently report roughly 28% below claimed range on highways at 110-120 km/h with the AC running. That puts the MG4 EV Urban at about 225 km real highway range. In city traffic, where regeneration works in your favour, you will land much closer to the claim.
Battery replacement and warranty. The battery is covered 8 years / 150,000 km, and the vehicle 5 years / 150,000 km, per the May 2026 launch reporting. Note the inconsistency: MG Capital's aftersales page advertises a blanket 4-year / 100,000 km warranty with no EV-specific clause. Get the EV terms written on your invoice and warranty booklet before you pay. MG Pakistan does not publish a battery pack replacement price. No local price list, no dealer quote sheet, nothing. Anyone quoting you a figure is guessing or importing an Indian number. Budget for an unknown after year eight.
Charging at home after the February 2026 net-billing switch. NEPRA's Prosumer Regulations 2026 killed unit-for-unit net metering. New solar connections after 9 February 2026 export at roughly Rs 11/unit while importing at Rs 50+ per unit. Exporting solar to the grid is now a bad trade. Charging your car with it in the middle of the day is the best available use of a rooftop system in Pakistan — you displace a Rs 50+ import instead of selling at Rs 11.
Charging network. NEECA has issued 72 EV charging licences since October 2024. Actual operational public sites nationwide are counted anywhere from about 20 to 50 depending on whose survey you trust, concentrated in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad/Rawalpindi. Grid connections, separate meters and DISCO NOCs are the bottleneck. Plan on charging at home. Load-shedding will occasionally cost you an overnight charge — a timer plus a partial state of charge buffer is the practical answer.
Monsoon and floods. The traction pack is sealed to IP67 class, which means 30 minutes at one metre — not indefinite submersion. The vulnerable parts are the 12V system, body control modules and cabin harness. Never restart a vehicle that has been submerged above the wheels. Flatbed tow it, power it down, get a certified inspection.
Resale. Pakistan has no battery state-of-health reporting standard and no depreciation history for the MG4 nameplate, which arrived in May 2026. Buyers of used EVs here cannot verify pack health, so they discount hard. Assume weak resale until proven otherwise.
Price context vs rivals
Car | Powertrain | Ex-factory price | Dated |
|---|---|---|---|
MG4 EV Urban | BEV | Rs 6,999,000 | 26 Jul 2026 |
MG Binguo EV | BEV | Rs 5,699,000 | 19 May 2026 (cut from Rs 5,999,000) |
BYD Atto 2 | BEV | Rs 7,290,000 | 2026 PakWheels EV price list |
BYD Atto 3 | BEV | Rs 8,990,000 | 2026 PakWheels EV price list |
The MG4 EV Urban is not the cheapest mainstream EV in Pakistan — MG's own Binguo EV undercuts it by Rs 1.3 million. What the MG4 buys over the Binguo is a bigger battery, real highway ability and 82 kW DC charging. Against the BYD Atto 2 at Rs 7,290,000 it is Rs 291,000 cheaper with a smaller, less premium body but faster DC charging.

Frequently asked questions
What does the MG4 EV Urban cost in Pakistan right now?
Rs 6,999,000 ex-factory as listed on 26 July 2026. It launched on 18 May 2026 at Rs 6,949,000, so the list price has crept up Rs 50,000. Freight, registration and taxes are extra.
Is the MG4 EV Urban a full electric car or a hybrid?
It is a full battery-electric vehicle (BEV). There is no petrol engine, no fuel tank and no self-charging mode. It must be plugged in.
What range should I actually expect in Pakistan?
MG claims 316 km WLTP. On a hot highway run at 110-120 km/h with the AC on, plan for roughly 225 km. City driving is closer to the claim.
How much does it cost per kilometre to run?
About Rs 4.48/km on the Rs 23.57 off-peak EV tariff, Rs 7.60-12.35/km on a home slab, and Rs 20.90-22.80/km at a public DC charger. Rooftop solar is roughly Rs 0/km marginal.
What happens if the battery fails?
It is covered for 8 years / 150,000 km. Outside warranty, MG Pakistan does not publish a battery pack replacement price, so budget for an unknown.
Does it support V2L?
Yes. MG Pakistan lists a vehicle-to-load function, which lets the 43 kWh pack run household appliances during load-shedding.
