The Growatt SPH5000 - full model name SPH 5000TL BL-UP - is a single-phase hybrid inverter that ties a solar array, a 48V battery and the grid together and keeps a 4,000W backup socket alive through load shedding. As of 2 August 2026 it sells in Pakistan for Rs 215,000-235,000: Rs 215,000 at solarpanelprices.pk, marked down from Rs 230,000 and in stock, and Rs 235,000 at W11Stop, in stock on a page timestamped today.

This is the Growatt hybrid Pakistan actually stocks. It is also a unit whose own manufacturer datasheet disagrees with itself about how many watts it makes, which is the first thing a buyer needs to know.

On the wattage conflict, plainly: Growatt's current published datasheet gives every model from SPH 4000TL to SPH 6000TL the same 4,000 W maximum AC output, but leaves the rated output current column reading 17.5 A, 20 A, 22 A and 27 A for those four models. Twenty-two amps at 230 V is 5.06 kVA and twenty-seven is 6.21 kVA; the two columns cannot both describe the same machine. The older Growatt sheet - still republished verbatim by the Pakistani seller quoting the lower price - reads 4,999 W rated, 5,000 VA maximum, 22 A, which is internally consistent. We print both and take no side. Photograph the rating plate on the unit you are handed.

Honest assessment

Pros. Two MPP trackers and a 120-550 V window on a 5kW hybrid is generous - it will start early and hold a long string. The backup output at 230 V with a sub-10 ms transfer is genuinely UPS-class, and the protection list is complete rather than aspirational: DC switch, battery reverse protection, insulation-resistance monitoring and all-pole leakage sensing are on the standard sheet, not an options list. IP65 with natural cooling means no fan to seize in Lahore dust. And it is one of the few inverters sold in Pakistan whose serial number you can type into the manufacturer's own warranty database on the shop floor.

Cons. It is the priciest 5kW-class hybrid on the shelf it shares with rivals - Rs 235,000 at W11Stop against Rs 230,000 for a Solis 6kW LV in the same store on the same day, and Rs 190,000-209,000 for the Knox and Itel 6kW units. The datasheet contradiction above is not a trivial typo when what you are buying is a wattage. The battery ceiling of 59 V rules out any high-voltage pack, so a future upgrade path is limited to 48 V modules. Wi-Fi is a dongle, not a radio - budget for it. And neither Pakistani seller of this unit publishes a warranty term on the product page at all, which leaves the buyer to establish it.

Who should buy. A net-metered household adding 5-10 kWh of 48 V lithium and wanting a fast, clean backup output, who values a revision-dated datasheet and a checkable serial over the last Rs 20,000-45,000 of price. Anyone whose priority is watts per rupee should look one row down the same shelf.

Pakistan reality check

Confirm the wattage on the plate, not the listing. Both Pakistani sellers list this as "SPH5000 5KW". One of them publishes a spec table showing 4,999 W rated output; Growatt's own current sheet shows 4,000 W. If your load calculation depends on the difference between 4.0 and 5.0 kW - and for a house with an air conditioner it will - insist on seeing the nameplate before the deposit, and photograph it.

The warranty runs from installation, and only in the country of sale. Growatt's warranty page states the standard term begins on the installation date shown on the installation certificate, and no more than six months after the delivery date - so a unit that sat in a warehouse for a year has already burned part of its cover. It also states that coverage depends on the country of sale, the country of installation and the after-sales service all aligning, and that Growatt pays freight only back to the original selling country. For a Pakistani buyer that is the clause that separates a supported unit from an orphan. The datasheet's "10 years" is an extension you apply for within two years of installation, not a default.

Set depth of discharge to 80%. Pylontech's official compatibility list Ver 2.40 lists this inverter family - "Growatt SPH 3000 - 6000", CAN, firmware RA1.0 - and separately carries footnote c: "When compatible with Growatt SPF/M series correponding type, according to inverter logic, the depth of discharge(DoD) of battery shall be set to 80% or lower. Otherwise may lead to system shut down and need of manually recharge battery." Read the document honestly and that footnote hangs off the SPF and M/LVM rows, not the SPH row. The reason it still governs your commissioning is that Growatt's own older SPH5000 sheet prints the same 80% for lithium (50% for lead-acid) on its own authority. This is the single most common commissioning mistake on Growatt-plus-lithium systems in Pakistan and it presents as a dead system at 5 a.m., not as an error the installer sees. Do not use SPF error-code advice on this inverter. The two-digit fault numbers - 04, 08, 11, 20, 58 - documented in our Growatt error-code guide belong to the Voltronic-derived SPF off-grid line. The SPH is a different platform with its own numbered errors surfaced on the LCD and in ShinePhone. Related: the 450 V string ceiling quoted for 5kW Growatt off-grid units does not apply here - the SPH5000's maximum PV input is 550 V, and its MPP tracking starts at 120 V.

Heat. IP65 and a +60 C ceiling make outdoor mounting legitimate, and with natural cooling there is no fan to fail. That is not permission to hang it in direct sun on a west wall. Shade it, leave clearance, and brush the fins monthly - dust on a convection-cooled body is the whole cooling system.

The SPH5000 is the only unit in that table under 6 kW, and it is the sixth-cheapest of eight. Read the other way: for Rs 5,000 less than the SPH5000, the same shop will sell you a Solis rated a full kilowatt higher; for Rs 45,000 less, a Knox Xenon 6kW with an IP66 body. Growatt's answer is documentation and a warranty you can verify by serial number - real advantages, unevenly valued.

If you want the cheaper end of Growatt itself, note that Rs 212,000 at the same shop on the same day buys a 15 kW Growatt three-phase on-grid string inverter - three times the kilowatts, no battery, no backup. The premium here is for the hybrid function, not for the badge.

Which batteries work with the SPH5000?

48 V packs only - the battery window is 42-59 V, so this is a low-voltage hybrid and will not take a high-voltage stack. Both lithium and lead-acid are supported.
