EV vs Petrol Calculator UAE — Cost Per Month at August 2026 Pump Prices
This is the one UAE calculator where both sides of the sum are published. The UAE Fuel Price Committee sets pump prices monthly — for August 2026, Special 95 at AED 3.49 a litre, Super 98 at 3.60 and E-Plus 91 at 3.41 — and DEWA publishes the electricity slab tariff you would charge on.
The default charging rate below is DEWA’s first slab (0.230 AED/kWh for the first 2,000 units a month) plus the August 2026 fuel surcharge of 0.060, so 0.29 AED/kWh. If your villa runs past 2,000 units a month — and adding a car charger is exactly what does that — your marginal rate is 0.280, 0.320 or 0.380 instead. Change the field.

No source we can cite publishes these figures for UAE, so the fields start empty rather than pre-filled with something plausible. The calculator prints no result until you supply your own.
- Units per month per installed kW — No UAE authority publishes a per-kW monthly yield. DEWA publishes irradiation, not output — "about 2100 kWh/m2 for Dubai" a year at the optimal south-facing 24° tilt — and its own FAQ tells you to ask your provider "how much your new system will produce on an annual basis". Put that contractor figure in here, divided by 12 and by the system kW. Everything below stays blank until you do.
- Installed cost per kW — low (AED) — UAE rooftop solar is sold by quotation. The only figure DEWA publishes is dated by DEWA itself — "(Q2 2021) typical system costs are in the 4,500-5,000 D/kWp range for small ‘villa-size’ systems" — and a five-year-old band is not a 2026 default. Type the per-kW figure from your own quote.
- Installed cost per kW — high (AED) — Same reason as the low figure: quote-only market, no current published band.
- Price of one panel (AED) — No verified public AED price exists for a Tier-1 550W-plus module — that segment is sold by distributors who publish nothing. Consumer retail publishes smaller panels; check /ae/prices/solar-panels for the dated rows we do have and type the price from your own quote.
- Usable kWh per panel per day — Follows from the yield figure above, which no UAE authority publishes. Ask your DEWA-enrolled contractor for the annual production estimate on the exact panel you are quoted, and divide by 365.

How this calculator works — the actual arithmetic
- Petrol cost = (km per month ÷ your km per litre) × the pump price. The default pump price is Special 95 at AED 3.49, the UAE Fuel Price Committee’s announced August 2026 rate.
- EV cost = (km per month ÷ 100) × kWh per 100 km × your charging tariff. The default tariff is DEWA slab 1 at 0.230 AED/kWh plus the August 2026 fuel surcharge of 0.060.
- The saving is the difference, shown monthly and annually. Nothing else is netted off — this is fuel against electricity and nothing wider.

Where these numbers come from
The pump price is the UAE Fuel Price Committee’s announced August 2026 rate, effective 1 August. The tariff is DEWA’s own published slab plus its published August 2026 fuel surcharge. Neither is our estimate; both are on the sources list below and both are editable above.
The consumption figures — 12 km/l and 13 kWh/100 km — are the calculator’s neutral placeholders, not UAE-specific measurements. Use your own car’s numbers; the whole result turns on them.

What this calculator does not know
- Home charging only. This compares a petrol pump with your own DEWA meter. Public charging is priced separately by the network operator and is not modelled here.
- It ignores the slab cliff. A charger that pushes a household from 1,900 to 2,100 units a month moves every unit above 2,000 to a higher rate; the calculator applies one flat rate you typed.
- Salik, parking, insurance, servicing and depreciation are all outside this sum. It answers "fuel versus electricity", nothing wider.

At DEWA’s first slab plus the August 2026 fuel surcharge — 0.29 AED/kWh — a car using 13 kWh per 100 km costs about AED 3.77 per 100 km at home. Above 2,000 kWh a month your marginal rate rises to 0.280, then 0.320, then 0.380 AED/kWh before surcharge.
What is the petrol price in the UAE right now?

Is an EV cheaper to run than petrol in the UAE?
On fuel alone, yes, and by a wide margin at these rates — the calculator prints the exact figures for your own mileage. Purchase price, insurance, servicing, Salik and depreciation are outside this comparison and are usually what decides the question.
