What Deepal is
Deepal is the premium electric sub-brand of Changan Automobile, developed in partnership with Huawei (infotainment) and CATL (cells), and sold in Pakistan by Master Changan Motors Limited. The brand launched here at Dolmen Mall Clifton, Karachi in August 2024 with two cars. As of 26 July 2026 the Pakistani line-up spans Rs 9,999,000 to Rs 19,000,000 ex-factory.
Deepal is not a badge-engineered import operation. Changan has pledged $50 million across the EV value chain in Pakistan, had 18 dealerships across 17 cities at rollout, has begun local assembly (the S05 is assembled here), and has said CKD manufacturing of further models is planned. That is more local commitment than most EV brands operating in Pakistan — which is a genuine reason to take it seriously, and no reason at all to skip the hard questions below.
The one thing you must get right: BEV vs REEV
Pakistani EV coverage conflates these constantly. Deepal sells both, under the same badge, in the same showroom.

A REEV (also called EREV) has a petrol engine that never drives the wheels — it runs a generator to top up the battery. You still buy petrol. You still service an engine. The S05 claims 1,000 km+ combined on a full charge and a full tank; it is a very different proposition from a BEV, and its Rs 9,999,000 price is explicitly described as introductory and time-limited.
A BEV — the L07 and S07 covered on this site — has no engine, no fuel tank, no oil changes and no range extender. If a salesperson tells you an L07 or S07 "has a petrol backup for long journeys", they are wrong, and you should treat everything else they say with equal caution.

Same pack, same motor, same platform. The SUV carries 140 kg more and pushes more air, so it gives up roughly 55 km of claimed range and about 2 kWh/100 km for its extra height and boot.
Prices moved down, not up
Both cars launched materially more expensive than they are today:

Booking at launch was Rs 3,000,000 with a complimentary 7 kW wall charger for pre-booking customers. That charger offer is still advertised on Deepal Pakistan's site as a limited-time launch promotion — not a standing entitlement. Get it, and the installation cost, written into your booking receipt.
Running cost and the solar case
Both cars are cheap to run only under specific conditions. At the NEPRA off-peak EV tariff of Rs 23.57/unit, the L07 costs about Rs 4.48/km and the S07 about Rs 4.95/km. On a typical home slab of Rs 40-65/unit that becomes Rs 7.60-12.35/km and Rs 8.40-13.65/km. On public DC fast charging at Rs 110-150/unit it becomes Rs 21.85/km and Rs 24.15/km — and at that point a Haval H6 HEV, at Rs 20.72/km and Rs 3.25 million cheaper to buy, is beating you.
Petrol reference for all of the above: Rs 331.52/litre, OGRA revision effective 24 July 2026. An equivalent 1.8L petrol sedan runs about Rs 30/km; a petrol SUV about Rs 37/km.
Charging from your own roof is the only route to genuinely cheap kilometres — roughly Rs 0/km marginal once the panels are paid for. A 585W panel produces about 2.3 kWh/day in Pakistani conditions, which covers about 12 km/day in an L07 and 11 km/day in an S07. Fifty kilometres a day therefore needs about five 585W panels for either car, dedicated to the vehicle on top of household load.
This matters more since 9 February 2026, when Pakistan replaced net metering with net billing. Exported units now earn about Rs 11/unit against import costs above Rs 50. Sending surplus solar to the grid has stopped making sense; putting it into a car battery between 10am and 4pm has become the best available use of a rooftop system. Agreements dated before 9 Feb 2026 keep their old 1:1 terms.
What we would want you to know before booking
Range claims are NEDC, and NEDC is generous. Some Pakistani listings label the L07's 540 km as CLTC — it is not; the 530 km CLTC figure belongs to a different, 56.1 kWh L07 not sold here. PakWheels drove an L07 from Lahore towards Islamabad and it stopped at 357 km, 54 km short of the route, consuming 17.9 kWh/100 km at 120 km/h in ECO mode. Pakistan's first S07 owner reported about 380 km in city driving against 485 km claimed. Assume roughly 28% below claim on highways with the AC on.
Battery replacement cost is unpublished. Warranty coverage is strong on paper — 5 years / 120,000 km vehicle, 8 years / 240,000 km battery, 8 years / 150,000 km electric drive. But Deepal Pakistan has never published what a replacement 66.8 kWh pack costs. Independent Pakistani estimates for packs this size sit between Rs 800,000 and Rs 1.3 million-plus, and a replacement can be 20-40% of a used EV's value. Ask for the number in writing. Nobody has given us one.

The charging network is thin. NEECA has licensed on the order of 70+ EV charging stations nationally, but licences are not chargers — 2025-26 reporting documents delays on DISCO connections, separate meters and NOCs, leaving roughly 20 genuinely reliable public DC points across the entire country against a national target of 3,000 by 2030. Changan's pledge to place chargers in 17 cities is intent, not infrastructure. Public DC electricity is expensive: Rs 110-150/kWh, versus a Rs 39.70/kWh policy cap that appears to be widely ignored.

Resale is an open question. Pakistan has no meaningful used-EV price history and no standard battery state-of-health disclosure at resale. Early local analysis suggests EVs track petrol cars on year-one depreciation but fall away faster by years three to five. Buy a Deepal to keep for the warranty period, not to trade in three years.
Load-shedding and monsoon. A 7 kW wall box on an unreliable feeder will not dependably fill 66.8 kWh overnight — solar plus storage stops being optional in much of the country. And if a Deepal has stood in flood water above the sill, do not restart it. Tow it and have it inspected; a restarted submerged EV is a fire risk and will not be a warranty claim. Deepal Pakistan does not publish the IP rating of either pack.

Deepal undercuts BYD on both body styles by roughly Rs 500,000-800,000 and matches or beats it on warranty paper. BYD has the deeper Pakistani manufacturing commitment. And a Haval H6 HEV remains the cheapest way to a low running cost if you cannot charge at home. We do not sell cars and take no dealer money — cross-shop all of them, and make the home-charging question the first one you answer, not the last.
