What can actually be verified about system cost in Saudi Arabia?

The component layer, and only the component layer.

Saudi Arabia has a real public price layer for solar hardware: specialty stores such as Riyadh-registered dlel.sa publish add-to-cart prices, solarcells.sa lists brand-name modules, thepowerq.com lists batteries, and the marketplaces provide a cross-check. Our own weekly survey now records SAR rows from that layer with the date they were taken, and they sit in the Saudi solar panel price index and the Saudi battery price index.

The installation layer publishes nothing. The Riyadh turnkey suppliers we checked, including Zayel Solar, list products and capabilities with no prices at all, because their business is project supply. That is a legitimate way to sell; it is simply not a price source. So the honest structure of this guide is: here is what we can prove, here is what we cannot, and here is how to close the gap yourself.

What does the verifiable hardware bill come to?

Below is a worked example for a household-scale hybrid system, built only from prices we can point at. It is an illustration of method, not a quote, and every line is dated.

Three caveats belong with that table, and they are not fine print.

The inverter is oversized and three-phase, because that is the only specialty-store inverter in Saudi Arabia we have a verified SAR price for. A single-phase unit matched to a 5kW array would cost less — marketplace hybrid and off-grid listings ran roughly SAR 720 to SAR 2,300 (August 2026) — but we have not dual-source verified a specific single-phase SAR price, so we are not going to put one in a table and let it look solid. The battery bank is gel, four units in series for 48V, and the nameplate 7.2 kWh is roughly 3.6 kWh of usable energy at conventional depth of discharge. Lithium would cost more on the sticker and less per usable kilowatt-hour — the arithmetic is in our solar battery price in KSA guide.

The panel line uses brand-name large-format modules. Our own 5 August 2026 survey row of SAR 0.93 per watt is a 270W polycrystalline module — cheaper per watt, but a generation behind and not interchangeable with the modules above.

What is missing from that number?

Everything that turns a pallet into a working system:

• Mounting structure and ballast or fixings appropriate to the roof
• DC string cabling, AC cabling, conduit and containment
• Isolators, surge protection, breakers and earthing
• Delivery of heavy freight to your city
• Labour, scaffolding or roof access, and commissioning
• The SEC grid-connection application and any documentation it requires

• VAT, if the quote is presented before tax

We are not going to estimate that block as a percentage of hardware. Every such rule of thumb we have seen for Saudi Arabia traces back to a different market's data, and importing a foreign multiplier into a market that publishes nothing is guessing with extra steps.

So how do you find out what a system costs?

You run your own price discovery, and the method is not complicated.

Collect three written, itemised quotes. Itemised means model numbers and quantities on the hardware lines, and the installation block broken out — not one figure with "supply and install" beside it. Price the hardware lines against the published layer above. If the panel line implies far more than the 1.19 to 1.44 SAR per watt band (August 2026) for the module class named, ask why; there may be a legitimate answer about warranty, sourcing or logistics, and you are entitled to hear it.

Then compare the three installation blocks against each other. That is your real comparison: hardware is close to a commodity with a public reference, installation is where competence, method and margin live. A quote that itemises hardware but hides installation is telling you where it does not want you looking.

What decides whether the total is worth paying?

Not the price of the system — the value of the energy it displaces.

Saudi Arabia runs net billing, not net metering. Exported electricity earns a low fixed credit, consistently reported at 7 halalas per kWh for residential customers, while imported electricity costs the full tariff. That asymmetry means a larger array does not automatically mean a better return: energy you generate and cannot use is worth a fraction of energy you generate and consume.

The design consequences are concrete. Size to consumption rather than roof area. Shift what load you can into daylight. Treat storage as a component that converts low-value exports into full-value self-consumption rather than as an optional extra. What should you refuse to accept in a Saudi system quote?

A single lump sum with no models named. You cannot verify it, compare it, or hold anyone to it.

A payback figure with no stated assumptions. Ask which export credit and which import tariff it uses. If the answer is a net-metering assumption, the number is wrong regardless of how confidently it is presented.

A warranty with no local honouring party. "Manufacturer warranty" means little if no entity inside Saudi Arabia will act on it.
